01. SIA: Global semiconductor sales up 1.9% month-to-month in September

November 3, 2023, According to the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA), global semiconductor sales in September 2023 were up 1.9% from August 2023 and down 4.5% from September 2022. Global semiconductor sales in the third quarter of 2023 totaled US$134.7 billion, a year-on-year increase of 6.3% compared with the second quarter of 2023 and a decrease of 4.5% compared with the third quarter of 2022.

According to Nikkan, a Japanese industrial news outlet, Isao Matsumoto, President of Rohm Co Ltd., announced during an earnings call in early November 2023 that it will manufacture 8-inch (200mm) silicon carbide wafers in its second factory in Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan, primarily for Rohm's internal use. The operation is expected to commence in 2024.

November 6, 2023, According to reports, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte led a Dutch delegation to visit Vietnam recently and said that Dutch semiconductor companies and suppliers are planning to invest in manufacturing in Vietnam and are expected to build factories and produce chips in Vietnam.

According to the delegation's list, about 12 of the nearly 30 companies are representatives of chip or semiconductor company suppliers.

During the visit to Vietnam, Dutch chip equipment manufacturer Besi Semiconductor announced that it had received approval to rent a factory in southern Vietnam with an initial investment of US$5 million.
