01. Server storage market to grow 152% in Q1 2024

    According to a recently published report by Dell’Oro Group, the trusted source for market information about the telecommunications, security, networks, and data center industries, the server and storage component market grew 152 percent in 1Q 2024, reaching a new record.

    This rapid growth is primarily the result of high demand for GPUs and custom accelerators for the hyperscale cloud market. General-purpose server and storage components also experienced double-digit revenue growth following an inventory correction cycle in 2023.

    02. Japan's chip production equipment sales are expected to grow 15% in fiscal 2024

      According to the Japan Semiconductor Industry Association, the development of artificial intelligence will drive the growth of semiconductor demand, and sales of chip manufacturing equipment in Japan are expected to increase by 15% in the 2024 fiscal year ending March 2025. At the same time, the Japan Semiconductor Equipment Association raised its annual sales forecast from 4.03 trillion yen to 4.25 trillion yen (approximated $26 billion).

      The association said that investment in logic foundries will increase, and it is expected that Japan's semiconductor equipment sales will increase by another 10% to 4.68 trillion yen in the fiscal year ending March 2026. In the following year, it will rise further to 5.15 trillion yen.

      03. Nvidia Blackwell B100/B200 deliveries imminent

        According to sources in the server supply chain, Nvidia will soon begin shipping its new B100 and B200 chips. Mass production of servers equipped with these Blackwell architecture chips is set to commence in the mid to late third quarter of 2024.

        04. Samsung projects a 15-fold profit surge in Q2 as chip prices rise

          As the global memory chip market continues its rebound fueled by the AI boom, Samsung said on Friday in its preliminary earnings guidance that it estimates an operating profit of 10.4 trillion won in the quarter, an increase of 1,452% from a year ago. The South Korean tech giant also projected revenue to grow 23.31% over the same period to 74 trillion won.

          05. Kioxia Reportedly Starts 218-Layer NAND Mass Production in July

            According to a report from Nikkei on July 3rd, Kioxia will start mass-producing its latest NAND flash products at its Yokkaichi plant in July. This move is said to be meeting the rapidly growing data storage demands driven by the proliferation of generative AI.

            Reportedly, the new NAND flash products Kioxia will produce feature 218-layer 3D flash, offering approximately 50% more storage capacity and requiring about 30% less power for data writing compared to current products.
